There are many additions you can make to a website in order to enhance the user experience. In this post, I present just a few things I have learned how to integrate in order to enhance functionality and create a more interactive website.
The first thing I have added, which can be seen below, is a video about gut microbiota (I’ve chosen this video at random as an example of video embedding). Instead of posting a link that takes you to an external site where the video is housed, it is easier for users to watch a video directly on your site without leaving the page.
The next thing I have incorporated onto my site is a twitter feed on all of the site’s pages. The feed was added using a widget, and updates automatically to display the 3 most recent tweets. Widgets are made of a combination of coding languages such as JavaScript and CSS, and assist in incorporating content from elsewhere onto a website. The feed can be found at the very bottom of the page, and looks like this:

In keeping with the social media theme, I also added a few social media buttons as a footer. The buttons lead to my personal social media accounts, allowing users to follow me on other platforms:

Last but not least, I have added an image gallery via a widget to the footer section that displays on each of the pages. The Gallery includes some sample pictures from my personal Instagram account:
